Ivan Sato
Japanese and neo-Japanese tattoos, in color and black & grey
About the artist
Ivan Sato has spent eight years specializing in Japanese tattooing, working in both the classical irezumi tradition and its modern neo-Japanese form. His pieces are built on dynamic composition, controlled shading and the rich color palette that defines Japanese tattoo art. Ivan draws on the old ukiyo-e woodblock prints, Japanese mythology and Eastern symbolism for his imagery: dragons, koi carp, geisha, chrysanthemums and kitsune foxes. In his hands these traditional motifs take on modern proportions and depth, shaped to the body and to each client’s own idea.
What the Japanese style is about
Japanese tattooing (irezumi) is one of the oldest and most recognizable styles in the world. Its look is unmistakable: bold, clean outlines, smooth shading transitions, saturated color and a strong sense of meaning. Every motif carries weight. A koi carp stands for perseverance and strength, a dragon for wisdom and protection, a chrysanthemum for perfection and the passing of time.
Neo-Japanese is the contemporary take on that tradition. It keeps the iconography and composition of irezumi but opens up a wider color range, more detailed shading and the occasional geometric element. Ivan tattoos both small standalone pieces, such as a koi carp on the forearm, and large multi-session work: sleeves, thigh pieces and full back projects.
Working with Ivan
Every project starts with a free consultation, in the studio or over WhatsApp. Ivan talks through the motif, its symbolism, the size and the placement, then prepares a custom design you can adjust before the session. Larger pieces are split across several appointments, usually four to six weeks apart, so the skin can heal fully in between. Ivan makes sure every element follows the natural lines of the body. That is what keeps a Japanese tattoo looking right for the rest of your life.
FAQ — Japanese tattoos in Wrocław
How much does a Japanese tattoo with Ivan Sato cost?
Prices start at 400 PLN for small pieces up to one hour of work. A standard session of around four hours is about 1,600 PLN, and a full-day session of six hours runs 1,800–2,200 PLN. You get an exact quote after a free consultation.
How long does a Japanese sleeve take?
A full sleeve is usually four to eight full-day sessions spread over several months. Ivan plans the project in stages so the composition stays coherent from start to finish.
Does a Japanese tattoo hurt?
It depends on the spot. The inner arm, ribs and knee are the most sensitive. Ivan works calmly and takes breaks during longer sessions, and most clients handle even six-hour sittings well when they come prepared.
Does Ivan do black & grey Japanese tattoos?
Yes. Ivan does both colored irezumi and black & grey versions. Japanese-style blackwork works beautifully with traditional motifs.
