Tattoo Age Requirement in Poland 2026

In Poland, anyone over 18 can get a tattoo without anyone else's consent. People aged 16 to 18 can get a tattoo with written consent from both parents or legal guardians.

Tattoos on people under 16 are discouraged, and in most studios (including ours) simply not offered, due to health, psychosocial, and legal considerations.

Minimum tattoo age in Poland

From age 18, adults in Poland can decide on getting a tattoo without anyone else's consent, in line with the general principle of adult autonomy. This is an important decision, and while you're free to make it independently, it's always worth thinking through the responsibility and long-term consequences involved.

Getting a tattoo at 16 or 17

People between 16 and 18 can get a tattoo, but only with written consent from both parents or legal guardians. This is a decision that should be carefully thought through and discussed with everyone involved. Requiring both parents' consent is meant to ensure the young person is making an informed choice, having considered both the benefits and the potential downsides. At Right Stuff Tattoo, we additionally require at least one parent to be present at the appointment along with valid ID.

Tattoos for 13-15 year olds

There's no explicit law in Poland stating that 13-15 year olds cannot get a tattoo, but in practice this is not offered by responsible studios, including ours, for several reasons:

• A tattoo involves the skin tissue, carrying a real risk of health complications
• Minors may not fully grasp the long-term consequences of a permanent body modification
• In the event of complications, tattooing can fall under regulations governing medical-adjacent procedures

Tattooing can also be treated as a medical-adjacent procedure, which means it may fall under the Polish Patient Rights Act. That law does not define the rights of patients under 16 — it only addresses patients who have turned 16:

"A patient, including a minor who has turned 16, has the right to consent to an examination or other health service provided by a doctor."

Why minors can't get tattoos freely

Restricting tattoos for minors comes from a concern for their physical and psychosocial wellbeing. Tattoos can have long-term health consequences and can reflect impulsive decisions. Younger skin may be more prone to infection, and healing can also be more difficult.

On top of that, tastes and personality change a lot during adolescence, which can lead to later regret over a design or placement chosen at a young age. Protecting minors from these risks is our priority.
