Blackwork, Ornamental, and Realism — Powerful Contrasts and Technical Precision

About the Artist

Maxim specializes in three demanding styles: blackwork, ornamental tattoos, and realism. They are united by one thing: a powerful contrast and an uncompromising approach to pigment density. Max approaches tattooing like a craftsman: the blacks must be as deep as possible, the geometric patterns perfectly symmetrical, and the realistic details refined down to every millimeter so that the design looks flawless even after 20 years.

Blackwork, Ornamental, Realism: Three Styles, One Artist

Blackwork is a style that tolerates no compromises — it relies on densely packed black ink, bold edges, and a daring play with the skin’s negative space. Tattoos in this style are incredibly expressive, durable, and resistant to the passage of time.

Ornamental (ornamental tattoo) draws from classic patterns, geometry, and tribal motifs, adapting smoothly to the body’s anatomy. It requires extraordinary precision for the bold lines and symmetry to create a harmonious, almost architectural composition on the skin.

Realism is a category for detail enthusiasts — from dark portraits to the precise rendering of textures. Maxim gladly combines realistic elements with powerful blackwork, creating cohesive, dark compositions with immense depth (dark realism).

The Process of Working with Maxim

Maxim places great emphasis on fitting the design to the client’s anatomy (freehand and precise mapping). After a consultation, he creates an accurate sketch: for ornamental pieces, body proportions are crucial, and in realism, extracting the maximum contrast is key. The client always sees the design and fittings before the session. Sessions are calm, focused, and professional — Maxim works methodically, building the composition layer by layer.

FAQ — blackwork i realism in Wroclaw

How much does a tattoo by Max cost?
From 400 PLN for small designs. A 4-hour session is around 1,600 PLN, and full-day sessions range from 1,800 to 2,200 PLN. Realism and heavy blackwork may require more time due to the strong color saturation and the amount of detail.

Does blackwork hurt more than other styles?
Packing large areas of black (solid fills) can feel more intense during longer sessions, but for many clients, the process is more predictable. The sensation depends mainly on the placement on the body.

Does Maxim do cover-ups in the blackwork style?
Yes, blackwork is absolutely the most effective method for covering old, unwanted tattoos (blast-overs or complete blackouts with ornamental elements). Max will evaluate the cover-up possibilities during the consultation.

How long does a blackwork/realistic tattoo take to heal?
The same as other tattoos: 2–3 weeks for surface healing, 2–3 months for full healing. Areas densely packed with black require rigorous moisturizing in the first few days.
